Painting and color brings me joy that I like to share. Art is my passion and stimulates joy, love, freedom and peace. I believe, we all need something in life to trigger these feelings. When I paint I get into a state, known as flow. Flow breaks stress better than anything else. For me it is strong enough that I forget everything else including time and place. However, I feel opened up to everything in the universe. Each painting is thus an experiment in creating beauty, with accompanying trials.

Art makes me happy and excites me. I hope it excites others and makes them want to find greater happiness in life. Painting is like a moving meditation, and connects me to how beautiful the world is---with all its problems and at times heartache, life is a wonder and a miracle, filled with so much love, it is everywhere, if you have the eyes to see. Even when something may seem bad, it teaches us something about love.

I have been told that I am a multi-faceted artist, I feel that this is true, as my work is
quite diverse with colour, medium and style.

I like to feel my art is spiritual, as it seems to depict things in my life and many dreams
that I have had.

As a human with frailties and hopes I use the medium of paint with its incredible
textures and colors as a tool to create greater awareness, freedom and happiness in the world.

US-born Maureen Whitaker is an award-winning artist/graphic designer based on the Mornington Peninsula. She graduated with Highest Honours from Platt College of Art & Design in Colorado and was a freelance graphic designer for over 15 years before adding a paintbrush to her arsenal.

Her work combines interesting layers of textures with vibrant colours in an array of mediums. Best known for her ‘Reefscapes’, Maureen held her first solo exhibition in May of 2011. “I get my inspiration from textures and shapes found in everyday materials. I love to experiment with textiles, papers, organic objects and recycled bits and pieces, and find interesting ways to incorporate and manipulate them to resemble nature’s palette. People are often surprised by what’s there in my pieces when they look closely.”

Awards include ‘Best in Show’, 2009 Somerville Council Skateboard Design Exhibition for “Frangipanis on Safari” (Acrylic on Board),‘Best Mixed’, 2011 Derinya Art & Craft Exhibition for “Deep Blue” (Mixed Media/Glasscoat Resin on Canvas Board) and a 'Highly Commended', 2013 Dromana Art Show for "Trinity" (Acrylic/Mixed Media on Canvas). Her work “Post No Bills” was selected from over 209 entries from 9 countries for inclusion in the 2011 Robert MacNamara Group Exhibition held at Collingwood Gallery. In addition to exhibitions throughout the Melbourne metro area, she is a regular exhibitor at Cheryl Petersen Gallery in Somerville, Gallery Vespa in Sorrento, Aum Shanti in Frankston, and The Gallery @ Flinders and works are held in private collections in the USA, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan and Australia.

Having always been creative and excelling at art and design during her school years, Rosemary Williams is now living her dream of being a full-time artist. Self-taught, she has developed a unique style of her own. Her work evokes a sense of delicate beauty and intrigue, and has an ethereal, timeless quality.

Having grown up on the Mornington Peninsula and now living on her rural family property, it is here that she finds her inspiration in the organic shapes, earthy tones and rich textures of her surrounds. "There is always something new to experience on my daily walks and each season brings different colours, shapes and moods." She draws from her love of nature, and bird life and insects also feature regularly in her artworks.

Working in an array of media, Rosemary often incorporates dried organics, printed and handmade papers, gold leaf and oil pastel. Working in multiple layers gives each piece a sense of depth and mystery. “I don't pre-plan my works---I prefer to allow them to evolve and tell their own story.”

Awards include “Best Still Life” for her work “Aura #1” in the Flinders Rotary Art Show, and her work “Nature's Journey” was one of only 33 works selected from over 209 entries from 9 countries for inclusion in the 2011 Robert MacNamara Group Exhibition held at Collingwood Gallery. In addition to exhibiting in art exhibitions throughout the Melbourne metro area, Rosemary has had successful solo and joint exhibitions, and her works are displayed in numerous galleries and specialty boutiques.
